WETT Inc. uses a standardized system called SITE™ to define how wood-burning systems should be inspected and reported. SITE™ outlines three levels of WETT inspections, depending on the purpose and level of access available.
The 3 Levels of WETT Inspections:
Level 1: Visual Inspection
A basic, non-invasive look at the system’s visible components. Often used for insurance purposes and real estate sales.
Level 2: Technical Inspection
A more detailed inspection that may involve tools and measurements to assess system performance and code compliance.
Level 3: Invasive Inspection
The most detailed level. It may involve removing parts of the system or structure (e.g. walls, ceilings) and is rarely required unless there are serious concerns.
Most WETT inspections done for home insurance or real estate are Level 1 (visual). Your inspector should clearly state the level of inspection provided in their report.
