Does a Wood Stove Have to Be WETT Certified?

WETT does not certify wood stoves—it certifies inspectors, not appliances.
Wood stoves themselves should be certified by the manufacturer to meet CSA or ULC safety standards in Canada. When a WETT inspector evaluates a wood stove, they look at whether the unit is installed correctly and appears to meet clearance and installation guidelines based on manufacturer specs and best practices.
If your wood stove is homemade, uncertified, or installed without documentation, a WETT inspection may flag it as non-compliant. This can affect your insurance or ability to sell the property.
